NORTHBROOK, IL — With a new school year, there are often a lot of new faces between students and faculty. In Northbrook/Glenview School District 30, new superintendent Dr. Emily K. Tammaru embraced her first day with students.

"My initial goals are to listen, be present and learn," Tammaru said. "It would be foolish to arrive with a long list of what I want to accomplish, because it's about what the community wants and we must create our agenda and goals together."

Tammaru joined the district on July 1 after serving superintendent of Community Consolidated School District 89, a district that serves nearly 2,300 students in Pre-K to 8th grade from Glen Ellyn, Lombard, and Wheaton. She was in that role for the past seven years.

“This is a great school district and we want to make sure that we preserve what’s going really well and I want to learn from teachers, students and community the areas where we need some attention,” Tammaru said. “We are aiming for a state of continuous improvement where we are always evaluating, gathering information, and broadly communicating what we learn.”
